SEARCA conducts orientation at UPM

SELANGOR, Malaysia – SEARCA, through its Graduate Education and Institutional Development Department (GEIDD), conducted an orientation on scholarship guidelines and responsibilities for new and ongoing scholars studying at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on 31 October 2019.

Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio, SEARCA Director, took this opportunity to meet and welcome the 21 scholars, out of 34 SEARCA scholars enrolled at UPM, who attended the meeting. Dr. Gregorio also mentioned SEARCA's new collaboration with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). He highlighted that this collaboration will open opportunities for scholars studying at UPM to conduct part of their research at MARDI. On the other hand, Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma, GEIDD Program Head, discussed the responsibilities of a SEARCA scholar, nature of the scholarship, and other benefits extended to SEARCA scholars such as support for paper presentation, publication fees, customized trainings, among others.

The orientation meeting is held annually for SEARCA scholars based in five study posts: University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) in the Philippines, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) in Indonesia, Kasetsart University (KU) in Thailand, and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Malaysia, to guide them with the scholarship process and administration policies throughout the duration of their study program. This also serves as a venue to meet their fellow scholars studying in the same study post.
