K-State professor calls on SEARCA officials

Dr. Marcellus M. Caldas, an environmental geographer who studies the interaction of social, economic, and environmental processes, visited SEARCA on 23 October 2018.

A Professor and Assistant Provost of International Faculty Collaboration and Educational Programs, Office of International Programs at Kansas State University (K-State), Dr. Caldas expressed interest in coming to SEARCA to know more about the Center’s programs and activities. 

He was received and briefed by Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma, Dr. Pedcris M. Orencio, and Dr. Maria Monina Cecilia A. Villena, SEARCA Program Heads for Graduate Education and Institutional Development, Research and Development, and Knowledge Management, respectively, as well as Dr. Mariliza V. Ticsay, SEARCA Unit Head for Knowledge Resources, and Dr. Maria Celeste H. Cadiz, SEARCA consultant.

Dr. Caldas also gave a presentation about K-State and its current academic and research programs.

He said K-State has strong academic programs in animal and grain sciences. Areas pertaining to the animal sciences are food safety and environmental stewardship.

He added that specific agricultural applications that could be explored are robotics, bioinformatics, and pharmacological biotechnology.

Dr. Caldas said he will come back to SEARCA next year with the Dean of K-State’s Graduate School whom he said will be much interested to collaborate with the Center. (Leah Lyn D. Domingo)
