This publication explores the potential of carbon farming practices in Southeast Asia to contribute to climate mitigation efforts while offering possible economic benefits for farmers. Drawn from discussions during the Roundtable Discussion Series on Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems in Southeast Asia held in April 2023 by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), it outlines emerging frameworks for understanding how agricultural systems might support national emissions targets and participate in carbon credit markets or ecosystem service schemes. It also highlights cooperative models and regional frameworks that can harmonize efforts across ASEAN countries and foster knowledge sharing and aligning support for carbon-smart agriculture.
