The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), together with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and the French Agricultural Research Center for International Development (CIRAD), spearheaded the Workshop on Applications of OneHealth Towards Sustainable Livestock Production in Southeast Asia on 25 October 2018 at the SEARCA Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. The workshop is a part of efforts to promote a holistic and interdisciplinary approach toward balancing productivity and sustainable development in the expanding livestock industry in Southeast Asia.

The workshop, which gathered a group of scientists and development practitioners from various sectors and disciplines, served as a collaborative venue to apply the concepts and principles of the OneHealth/EcoHealth framework in meeting the challenges of the livestock sector and in promoting food security and livelihood in the region. It emphasizes on the interrelatedness among the industry’s social, economic, political, and environmental spheres. The workshop consisted of a public seminar on the basic concepts and current applications of the OneHealth/EcoHealth framework in Southeast Asia and a workshop that discussed and refined the draft concept for a research and capacity building program for operationalizing sustainability of the region’s livestock sector through the OneHealth/EcoHealth approach.
