NUEVA ECIJA, Philippines – SEARCA, commissioned by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), successfully implemented the project Market-Oriented Agri-Technology and Agri-Extension Services under the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS).
A total of ten participants from seven countries are now participating in the maiden offering of the month-long post graduate course in food and nutrition security for sustainable development in Southeast Asia being held at SEARCA, College, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines.
  QUEZON CITY, Philippines – SEARCA co-published the Filipino edition of the picture book titled “The Adventures of Gabby Ghas,” which was launched on 26 September 2014 at the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) based in this city.
Commissioner Ruperto S. Sangalang of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Philippines visited SEARCA on 5 September 2014 to explore how SEARCA can assist in capacity development of state universities and colleges (SUCs) and other higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country so they can be competitive with others in Southeast Asia in light of the regional integration in 2015. Dr. Sangalang is the CHED Commissioner in charge of agriculture.
SEARCA has just released two monographs from the Philippine component of the International Development Research Center (IDRC)-funded project entitled Building Capacity to Adapt to Climate Change in Southeast Asia, which SEARCA implemented in cooperation with the Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA).

SEARCA and GIZ collaborate for ARD2014

LOS BAÑOS, Philippines– Headed by Mr. Max-Johannes Baumann, Program Director of Environment and Rural Development (EnRD), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) team met with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) Director and Staff to discuss GIZ’s participation in the Second International Conference on Agricultural and Rural Development in Southeast Asia (ARD2014). SEARCA and GIZ also explored other possible areas of collaboration beyond ARD2014.
A study that was conducted to help prevent the extinction of almaciga trees has trained 144 indigenous peoples (IPs) in Palawan and Sierra Madre to improve their resin harvesting methods. As a result of the study, the population of almaciga tree in the said localities is expected to increase.
LOS BAÑOS, Philippines – The ASRF Program Steering Committee (ASRF PSC) convened on 14 September 2014 at SEARCA to evaluate the shortlisted proposals under the ASRF First Call for Proposals and discussed other important matters about the program.
To upgrade the technical capacity of the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) on the areas of livestock research and application of biotechnology, PCC partners with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) to offer scholarships for qualified PCC officers and staff to undertake graduate education in biotechnology, bio-informatics, genomics, breeding and other related courses.
