LOS BAÑOS, Philippines– SEARCA, in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and with support of the University Consortium (UC) has successfully completed the one month Summer School on Food and Nutrition Security for Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia. This pilot offering was completed by 10 participants from 7 countries, namely: Indonesia (1), Lao PDR (1), Germany (1), Malaysia (1), Myanmar (1), Philippines (3), and Thailand (2).
LOS BAÑOS, Philippines – Central Luzon State University (CLSU) President Dr. Ruben Sevilleja visited SEARCA and met with Dr. Virginia R. Cardenas, Deputy Director-Administration, and Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma, Program Head for Graduate Education and Institutional Development. The meeting, held on 17 October 2014, was a spin-off of the visit of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Dr. Ruperto Sangalang (see related story) regarding the possible collaboration of SEARCA and CHED with regard to the capacity development of agricultural state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines.
LOS BAÑOS, Philippines – Twenty participants representing various sectors and stakeholders from the Philippine agriculture and fisheries sector participated in the third training-workshop on “Integrating Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) into Policies, Plans and Investments” held on 7-10 October 2014 at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines.
BULACAN, Philippines – SEARCA and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region 3 organized and facilitated the graduation ceremony of 195 farmer technicians from 11 agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBOs) on 29 September 2014 in Baliuag, Bulacan. SEARCA assisted the following ARBOs: 3M3BC ARC Irrigators Association,Balikatang Pamayanan ng Inaon Multipurpose Cooperative, Cabago Irrigators Association Inc., Catmon Multipurpose Cooperative, Catacte Samahang Nayon Multipurpose Cooperative Inc., DRT Mt. Sinai Multipurpose Cooperative, Maronquillo Multipurpose Cooperative Inc., Samahan ng Magsasaka at Maggugulay Multipurpose Cooperative, Land Reform Farmers’ Cooperative of Bagong Silang, Maligaya Agricultural Marketing Cooperative, and Samahan ng Magsasaka ng Kaybanban Multipurpose Cooperative.
OROQUIETA CITY, Philippines – SEARCA, in partnership with WorldFish, conducted a one-day monitoring and evaluation validation workshop and harvesting of stories on 30 September 2014 in Rhovics Hotel and Conference Facilities in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental. The activity is part of the European Union (EU)-funded project titled Implementing an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) in Small-scale Tropical Marine Fisheries Project. Representatives of the Iligan Bay Alliance of Misamis Occidental (IBAMO) participated and actively produced the different challenges and success stories experienced in the formation and mobilization of IBAMO within three years.
NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar –The ASEAN Social Forestry Network Strategic Response Fund (ASRF) joined the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN) and the ASEAN-Swiss Partnership Program on Social Forestry and Climate Change (ASFCC) on a Courtesy Call to the Government of the Union of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw on 29 September 2014.
The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) is pleased to announce the Second Call for Proposals for the ASEAN Social Forestry Network Strategic Response Fund or ASRF.  The ASRF is the flexible funding mechanism for the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN) launched on 27 May 27 2014 during the 8th ASFN Meeting in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.  It is being managed by SEARCA under the auspices of the ASEAN-Swiss Partnership on Social Forestry and Climate Change (ASFCC) with funding support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
NUEVA ECIJA, Philippines – SEARCA, commissioned by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), successfully implemented the project Market-Oriented Agri-Technology and Agri-Extension Services under the Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS).
A total of ten participants from seven countries are now participating in the maiden offering of the month-long post graduate course in food and nutrition security for sustainable development in Southeast Asia being held at SEARCA, College, Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines.
  QUEZON CITY, Philippines – SEARCA co-published the Filipino edition of the picture book titled “The Adventures of Gabby Ghas,” which was launched on 26 September 2014 at the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) based in this city.
