SEARCA creates avenues that will support the scholar's graduate studies as well as encourage a university-life balance. The Education and Collective Learning Department (ECLD) annually organizes customized training programs, learning events, and activities to new and ongoing scholars as part of its mandate in building the capacity of future agriculture leaders and professionals.

Customized Training for SEARCA Scholars
Basic English Training
The Basic English Training is annually held in July, to enhance the scholars' language proficiency, prepare them for their graduate studies, and encourage them to be more comfortable with the English language.

Training on Writing Thesis and Dissertation Proposals
The Training on Writing Thesis and Dissertation Proposals discusses basic principles such as identifying the research problem, finding credible references, writing their content, and presenting their proposals. The training is offered for those nearing the enrollment of their thesis or dissertation proposal writing.

Training on Data Analysis and Experimental Designs

The Training on Data Analysis and Experimental Designs aims to assist scholars in developing a framework for their research and introduce them to the conditions where they will do their research. It discusses the design techniques for experiments, the use of survey questionnaires, methods of probability sampling for surveys, statistical analysis, and the use of infographics in data presentations. The training is offered for those nearing the enrollment of their thesis or dissertation proposal writing.

Special Graduate Seminar
The special graduate seminar is held once every semester and highlights outstanding research by a SEARCA scholar. Hosting the seminar is the Center's way to support the scholars' academic milestones and to recognize their capacity to produce quality research that has a great impact on agriculture and rural development.

GSID Conversations
The GSID Conversations serve as an avenue for scholars to discuss with experts from different fields regarding complementary topics in agriculture and rural development. Activities for Scholars
Teambuilding
The activity is an out-of-town day trip in the Philippines to welcome new and ongoing scholars, allowing them to socialize with the rest of their peers at the start of the semester.

SEARCA Scholarship Orientation for New and Ongoing Scholars
The Scholarship orientation acquaints the students with SEARCA and their responsibilities as scholars of the institution. The event is also an avenue for them to meet their fellow scholars. The orientation is conducted in the different study posts of SEARCA.

SEARCA Online Hangouts

SEARCA recognizes the unprecedented circumstances of the new batch of scholars and is keen to provide support for their unique challenges. The online hangouts aim to check in with SEARCA scholars given the challenge of the new normal.

Testimonial Program
SEARCA annually conducts a Testimonial Program to recognize the accomplishments of the scholars who finished their degrees. In AY 2020-2021, SEARCA launched the Outstanding SEARCA Scholar Award for MS and PhD graduates, and the special award for scholars who finished their degrees on time.

GSID Newsletter
The GSID Newsletter aims to share scholars’ stories about their curricular and extracurricular activities in their respective study posts. The newsletter also serves as a platform to inspire current scholars with the activities of the SEARCA alumni. SEARCA scholars contribute their articles (news or feature) and/or creative works (drawing, poems, essay, photo essays, etc.) to the publication.
