This publication provides an overview of ongoing regional efforts to align halal slaughtering practices and certification systems within Southeast Asia, in light of the increasing demand for high-quality, ethically processed halal products in both local and international markets. Capturing the technical sessions and policy exchanges of the Regional Training-Workshop on Halal Slaughtering and Certification jointly held by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in August 2022, the proceedings provide detailed insights into halal requirements, inspection protocols, and certification frameworks as practiced in different ASEAN member states. It emphasizes the importance of religious compliance, food safety, and international trade readiness, presenting opportunities for mutual recognition, training harmonization, and regional cooperation.
