Calamansi or calamondin (Citrus x microcarpa) is an indigenous citrus fruit renowned for its versatility. It serves as a staple souring agent in Filipino cuisine, from viands and salads to condiments and desserts, while its juice is a primary base for refreshing beverages and concentrates. Rich in vitamin C, calamansi is also popularly used as a home remedy for respiratory ailments, and its essential oils are increasingly sought after as aromatic additives in cleaning and personal care products.

There is a robust domestic demand and surging international interest in calamansi-based products. In 2024, the Philippines produced 110,004.52 t of calamansi valued at PHP 5.25 billion (PSA 2025a, 2025b). The province of Oriental Mindoro in Region IV-B (also known as MIMAROPA) has been the country’s leading calamansi producer for over a decade, accounting for at least 30 percent of the national output. Despite this dominance, local production is frequently hampered by typhoon damage, the prevalence of pests and diseases, a high population of unproductive aging trees, and suboptimal crop management. Furthermore, the industry faces economic volatility; during peak harvest months, farmgate prices have historically plummeted—sometimes reaching as low as 60 percent of the average monthly production cost—severely impacting the livelihoods of calamansi growers.

This technoguide provides a comprehensive overview of the current industry landscape, along with technical protocols for propagation, field establishment, maintenance, harvesting, and postharvest handling. As the Philippines works toward a formalized national standard, this guide adapts international citrus good agricultural practices (GAP) into a localized framework. It is designed to empower growers to enhance fruit quality and meet the rigorous requirements for national certification.
