(Philippines), Master of Science (University of the Philippines Los Baños)

Thesis Abstract:

The general objectives of the study was to provide farmers and policy makers some epimirical bases for were related to net income through a tubular presentation and those related to gross income, through the fitting of a mathematical function  using  empirical data. Involeved in the study were 120 farms in 20 barrios in Nueva Ecija.

Results indicated that variations in net income were affected by landlord share (65% of total variable costs); land rent (91%) of total variable costs), and expenses for fertilizers and chemical and other inputs, Factors affecting gross income were land area, labor operating cash expenses, farm tols and equipment, nad livestock and poultry.

Analysis showed that a 1% increase each in land input and labor input would give average increases of 0.87 and 0.31% in gross income, respectively (holding other factors constant ). A 1% in cash expenses, tools and equipment, and livestock and poultry would result in average income increses of 0.03, 0.04 and 0.12% respectively.

The study pointed out that net income could be increased by augmenting gross income through higher output either by increasing yield or by expanding the crop area. Land reform program could help farmers through product price support and subsidized input cost.
