Assessing the efficiency and prospects of the tunnel vent technology for the swine and poultry industries in Mindanao, Philippines (Phase 1)

This study aims to study broiler production in particular which is expected to be utilized in commercial farms and where environmental control systems are very essential. As shown in the figure below, broiler production is high at Central Luzon and CALABARZON areas, where most contract growers of big integrators are usually located. Observable sharp declines in some years might indicate periods of disease outbreak and natural calamities and interventions.

Objective 1: Document the extent of adoption of the tunnel vent technology in Mindanao, including practices appropriateness and concerns of the industry and the current innovations

Objective 2: Determine the effect of the technology in the technical performance and efficiency of swine and poultry production

Objective 3: Compare the financial viability of the tunnel vent technology and conventional system in swine and poultry production

Objective 4: Estimate the environmental benefits and costs associated with the tunnel vent technology
