Southeast Asian youth tackle climate change in SEARCA's new Agri Talk episode

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna — The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) Youth in Agritalk show is set to tackle climate change in its upcoming episode titled "Climate Detectives: The Case of the Changing Climate."

Airing on May 15, 2026, at 7 p.m. on SEARCA Center's Facebook page, the episode takes the youth to a playful journey into bizarre climate mysteries, helping them better understand how climate change affects agriculture and everyday life.

The episode highlights the crucial role young people can play in addressing climate change, making it an important watch for those interested in sustainability and agriculture.

Ochie San Juan, chief farmer and co-founder of the agri tech startup Mayani, joins the episode as the Chief Detective, responding to questions from young students in Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The SEARCA Youth in Agri Talk Show follows a non-academic, non-conventional approach designed to promote awareness and appreciation of agriculture among Southeast Asian youth, particularly those in basic education.

Previous episodes explored agriculture as a fulfilling career, the role of beneficial insects in ecosystems, and the positive impact of school and home gardening on youth development.

Climate change poses significant challenges to agriculture, threatening food security and sustainability.

SEARCA emphasizes climate-smart agriculture, which boosts productivity, enhances resilience, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

This approach includes practices like climate-resilient crop varieties, conservation agriculture, and agroforestry.

This upcoming episode will spotlight the impacts of climate change on agriculture and underscore the important role young people can play in addressing this global challenge.
