Los Baños, Philippines — Young leaders from Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines took center stage at a webinar hosted by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) on August 14, 2025. Held via Zoom and Facebook Live, the event celebrated International Youth Day by highlighting the pivotal role of youth in transforming local agrifood systems.
Speakers shared their experiences in launching innovative solutions, overcoming challenges, and advocating for greater youth engagement in agriculture.
Ms. San Thida Aung (Myanmar), Head of Education at MyFarmer Labs, introduced "MyFarmer," a groundbreaking agritech platform connecting smallholder farmers to investors and donors. "Through education and technology, we can prepare them to become innovative, resilient, and future-ready agri-entrepreneurs," she said.
Mr. Dennis Ivan Chavez (Philippines), Founder and CEO of Fresco Greenovations, recounted his journey starting a startup as a university student. Highlighting the power of social media and influencer involvement, Chavez noted, "We can leverage social media for education and awareness so the younger generation is exposed to greater possibilities, including agri-tech solutions."
Ms. Salsabila Andriana (Indonesia), Chief of Creative and Partnerships at Sinagi Papua, presented efforts to promote cultural preservation and food innovation through a women-led indigenous social enterprise in Sorong, Indonesia. "To get youth involved, you need to build awareness and pride, emphasize the importance of participation, keep them engaged, and create fun," she shared.
The webinar, part of SEARCA's Young Forces for Agricultural Innovation (#Y4AGRI) initiative, drew over 300 participants from across Southeast Asia and beyond.
