To discuss efforts in advancing the educational system of the Philippines and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Nations, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones received a courtesy visit from the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council President.
The Thai Minister of Education Teerakiat Jareonsettasin – in his official capacity as the concurrent SEAMEO Council President – visited Briones at the DepEd Central Office (CO) in Pasig City recently.
The said meeting was part of the SEAMEO Council President's two-day visit in the Philippines to meet with the DepEd Secretary and other DepEd Executive Committee (ExeCom) members to discuss efforts in advancing the educational system of the Philippines and other SEAMEO member countries.
The two-day visit also aimed to get updates and accomplishment reports from SEAMEO's three centers in the Philippines—the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), SEAMEO Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (INNOTECH), and SEAMEO Tropical Medicine and Public Health Network (TROPMED).
Aside from the said activities, Jareonsettasin also witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Southeast Asian AgriMuseum and Learning Center Project, which will rise adjacent to SEARCA; and SEAMEO INNOTECH's tree planting activity, and exhibit—which depicts the Center's vision and mission, core values and strategic goals.
SEAMEO is a regional intergovernmental organization established in 1965 among the Southeast Asian countries to promote regional cooperation in education, science and culture in the region.
