AIM, NVSU represent Luzon in Innovation Olympics 2.0 finals

Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) are in the finals of the Innovation Olympics 2.0 after besting nine other teams for the right to represent Luzon in the competition that challenges the next generation​ of agriculture, business, and technology young Filipino leaders ​to develop innovative solutions to​ real-life challenges of small-holder vegetable farmers.

Farm Journal Using Analytics and Networks (FarmJuan) is a digital agriculture system enabler that provides actionable insights for farmers that can help increase yield and profit, monitor farm inputs and minimize their production costs. It was developed by Earwin Belen, Carlo Tansuk, Kit Sumabat, and Arvi Ubaldo, who are all AIM Master of Science in Innovation and Business students.

The Automated Irrigation and Nutrient Management System (AIRIN) is a synergistic system that helps farmers manage irrigation and insect infestation remotely. It was developed by Myka Fragata, Maricel Farro, and Jaime Hapicio, who are all NVSU students.

After winning the seed fund of PHP 100,000 from the Luzon Leg in December 2020, the AIM’s Farm Juan and NVSU Team AIRIN will be implementing their projects from March to May 2021 and present their results to compete against the finalists from the Visayas and Mindanao for the grand prize of PHP 200,000 at the Innovation Olympics 2.0 National Demo Day in June.

The team with the project that exemplified entrepreneurial innovation and made a significant impact in their adopted farming community will be declared as Innovation Olympics 2.0 Grand Champion.

Innovation Olympics 2.0 is a collaboration of East-West Seed with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), Sensient Colors LLC, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), UPLB-Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (UPLB-TTBDO), UPLB Startup Innovation and Business Opportunity Linkaging Labs (SIBOL Labs), and APEX: The UPLB Business Network.

“The IO2 is the platform where the innovative, adventurous, or crazy ideas of our youth can be honed and tested in the farmers’ field and make the life of farmers comfortable and profitable. We believe that our youth are the implementors of Agriculture 4.0 and they have the ability to make it a reality,“ SEARCA Director Dr. Glenn B. Gregorio said in a SEARCA release.

AIM students’ e-Magsasaka project bagged the top prize at the Innovation Olympics Championships in 2018.

In 2020, Nueva Viscaya State University launched its NVKROPS e-commerce platform to help farmers sell their harvest amid the pandemic,
