Vietnamese researcher presents paper and leads session at human ecology international conference through a SEARCA travel grant

LOS BAÑOS, LAGUNA, PHILIPPINES. Vietnamese researcher Dr. Thong Anh Tran presented his empirical insights into "Practices of adaptive co-management at the interface of flood management and adaptation" at the recently concluded 22nd International Conference of the Society for Human Ecology (SHE) through a SEARCA travel grant. The conference themed "Envisioning Pathways to Just and Sustainable Futures: Celebrating Diversity, Pursuing Integration and Developing Livable Communities" was held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Philippines, from 28 November to 01 December 2017. 

Dr. Thong Anh Tran's paper, which covers experiences in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD), is currently under review for the International Journal of Water Resources Development. He also chaired the conference session "Food Systems and Water Management for Rural Development."

Dr. Thong Anh Tran completed his doctoral study at Fenner School of Environment and Society of the Australian National University in 2016, where he has also been working as a Visiting Fellow until now. He earned a Master's degree in Conflict Transformation at Eastern Mennonite University, USA, in 2007. He is a researcher and lecturer at the Research Center for Rural Development of An Giang University, Vietnam and has led a number of research projects related to rural livelihoods and climate change adaptation in the VMD. Dr. Thong Anh Tran's research interests include the practice and policy domains related to water governance, social learning, and rural adaptation.

The SHE International Conference was jointly organized by the Society for Human Ecology and UPLB, specifically the UPLB College of Human Ecology; the HUMEIN Philippines, Inc.; and the UPLB College of Human Ecology Alumni Association. It was sponsored by a number of local and international organizations including SEARCA.
