LOS BAÑOS, Laguna, Philippines – The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), through its Education and Collective Learning Department-Training for Development Unit (T4DU), is gearing up for two online training programs under the Levelling-Up Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources (LevelUpHEI AFAR) funded by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The Training-Workshop on Developing Fundable Research Project Proposals for Transformational Agricultural and Rural Development for Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines (FundableProp4HEIs) is slated for 18 -29 April 2022 while the Training on Scientific Writing and Presentation for Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines (SciWriting4HEIs) will be held from 19 April until 17 May 2022.

The FundableProp4HEIs is expected to have around 40 participants from 29 higher education institutions that are members of the State Universities and Colleges – Association of Colleges of Agriculture in the Philippines, Inc. (SUC-ACAP, Inc.) while SciWriting4HEIs will have 36 participants from 20 SUC-ACAP members.

The FundableProp4HEIs is aimed at introducing participants to transformational agricultural and rural development paradigm and providing skills in project planning, specifically in project ideas generation and prioritization, formulation and design, and proposal packaging.  The course, which will have five modules, is built to answer the following questions: Are our projects promoting innovations and transformation in agriculture and rural development? How do we design and package them into fundable project proposal/s that are acceptable to stakeholders, in general, and to funding agencies, in particular?

On the other hand, SciWriting4HEIs is designed as a project-centered training course, and mainly aims to introduce principles and practical techniques for communicating scientific information to an academic audience. Participants will write a complete scientific paper, choose an appropriate journal to which they will submit the finished paper for publication, and prepare a video presentation of their research for a conference.

The LevelUPHEI AFAR project aims to elevate Philippine higher education institutions in agriculture, fisheries, and natural resources (AFNR) towards enhanced relevance and competitiveness in the 21st century. The project includes mentoring and nurturing members of the State Universities and Colleges Association of Colleges of Agriculture in the Philippines, Inc. (SUC ACAP) and improve their standings in the world university rankings.
