SEARCA offers annual customized training for its scholars as part of the Graduate on Time (GOT) Program.
LOS BAÑOS, Philippines—As part of its efforts to develop future leaders in agriculture, rural development, and allied fields, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study andb Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) will hold a week-long, in-person Training on Writing for Science and Policy for SEARCA Scholars on 21-25 July 2025. The training is organized by SEARCA's Education and Collective Learning Department (ECLD) and is designed to strengthen skills in scholarly communication.
The training aims to deepen participants' understanding of scientific writing conventions and equip them to produce clear, well-organized journal articles, craft effective research presentations, and use appropriate visuals and scripts to communicate research findings to academic and policy audiences.
Eighteen SEARCA scholars from various scholarship programs and universities—including Kasetsart University (KU) in Thailand, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), IPB University in Indonesia, Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo NODAI), and National Taiwan University (NTU)— will participate in the training.
Faculty members from the UPLB College of Development Communication will lead the sessions, which will focus on the core principles and practical techniques of effectively communicating scientific information. The scholars will be guided through planning a journal article using a structured checklist, defining their manuscript's scope, and identifying appropriate journals and conferences for submission. Participants will also practice applying clear and effective writing techniques to convey technical content and learn how to revise their work based on reviewer feedback.
In addition, the training will equip scholars with the skills to translate their research into compelling presentations for policymakers and deliver a strong research pitch that highlights the relevance and impact of their work. The training will conclude with a conferencewhere scholars will present their research and apply what they have learned.
This customized training is part of SEARCA's Graduate on Time (GOT) Program, which features a series of annual academic and extracurricular learning activities designed to support scholars in completing their degree requirements within the prescribed timeframe.
