SEARCA donates books to public schools in Los Baños

Elementary students receive science, mathematics, and language textbooks and reference materials from SEARCA.

LOS BAÑOS, Philippines – As part of SEARCA’s Community Involvement Program (CIP), the Center donated science, mathematics, and language textbooks and reference materials to 10 public elementary schools and four high schools in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines on 27 February 2015. The activity aimed to improve the library collection of public schools in Los Baños and provide a better learning experience for the students.

The schools that benefitted from the activity include the Los Baños Central Elementary School, Bambang Elementary School, Lalakay Elementary School, Tadlac Elementary School, Bernardo N. Calara Elementary School, Malinta Elementary School, San Antonio Elementary School, Maahas Elementary School, Paciano Rizal Elementary School, Bayog Elementary School, Los Baños National High School–Poblacion Annex, Los Baños National High School-Bayog Annex, Tuntungin Putho National High School, and Los Baños National High School-Main.

SEARCA acquired the donated books from its partners through the voluntary contributions from the staff and other fund-raising activities of the Center. The book donation was carried out by the SEARCA team composed of the Office of the Director, Human Resources Management Unit (HRMU), and the Social and Wellness Activities Committee (SWAC).

The team also assessed other educational requirements of the schools which SEARCA may cover in its next CIP activities.

Through these CIP initiatives, SEARCA contributes to the development of its host community and its immediate environs, particularly in the areas of education and social welfare.
