PCC gears up to boost production of knowledge materials for its clients

PCC Officials and staff together with the Regional Lead Knowledge Products Writers during the “Training of Trainers in Writing Effective Knowledge Products” held on 18 – 21 April 2016 at Basco, Batanes.

BASCO, BATANES, Philippines – In its effort to level up its knowledge management initiatives, the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) recently supported a Training of Trainers in Writing Effective Knowledge Products under the project titled Building Capacity and Strengthening Partnership for Carabao Development Program that the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) implements for PCC. A total of 26 participants, composed of Regional Lead Knowledge Products Writers and officials and staff from PCC Main Headquarters, participated in the learning activity on 18 to 21 April 2016 at Batanes Seaside Lodge, Basco, Batanes. The training of trainers generally aimed to enhance partcicipants’ knowledge and understanding of Knowledge Products (KPs), including their features and structure. It also included a writeshop where participants prepared and polished drafts of their respective KPs.

Dr. Eric Palacpac, Chief, Knowledge Management Division, Philippine Carabao Center, gave a review of the principles and objectives of knowledge management. On the other hand, Dr. Serafin Talisayon, KM Policy Planning Specialist and Project Team Leader, discussed the different features of an effective KPs, definition and purpose. He then guided them on how to technically review and edit the draft KPs that the participants prepared prior to the training following the guidelines he had provided them on how to write effective KPs. Dr. Maria Celeste H. Cadiz, SEARCA Program Head of the Knowledge Management Department (KMD), reviewed some useful tips in good writing while Ms. Rowena Galang-Bumanlag discussed the standard guidelines on format, layout and style of communication materials that the KM Division at PCC adopts.

After the workshop, the lead KP writers are expected to echo or train other KP writers in their respective centers, who will also write and present KPs in the National Knowledge Sharing Forum on CBED on November 2016. The compilation of these KPs will further make up the National CBED Compendium. In addition, the lead KP writers shall serve as study leaders and technical editors during the production of KPs.

The writeshop team from SEARCA led by Dr. Talisayon also included Ms. Rosario B. Bantayan, Program Specialist under KMD, Ms. Nancy M. Landicho-de Leon, Program Specialist, and Ms. Sarah Grace L.
