DA RFOs 6, 7, and 8 participate in SEARCA, UPLBFI Workshop on AMIA-Project 1 Landscape Planning and Yolanda Strategic Plan

Workshop participants at the AMIA-Project 1 Landscape Planning and Yolanda Strategic Plan composed of Regional Technical Directors and Climate Change representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Offices (RFOs) in Regions 6, 7, and 8; AMIA-Project 1 Consultants; and representatives from SEARCA and UPLBFI.

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Regional Technical Directors and Climate Change Representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Offices (RFOs) in Regions 6, 7, and 8 participated in the two-day workshop on Landscape Planning and Yolanda Strategic Plan on 29-30 June 2015 at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel, Cebu City. This activity is part of the project being implemented by SEARCA and the University of the Philippines Los Baños Foundation, Inc. (UPLBFI) for DA entitled Strengthening Implementation of Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) – Project 1.

The workshop aimed to apprise the participants regarding the AMIA Project 1; discuss the Landscape Planning component of the project, including timelines; explain the terms of reference of the Regional Technical Experts; and prepare a detailed program of work for each region affected by Typhoon Yolanda. The workshop looked into the key indicators on the biophysical and socioeconomic dimensions of resiliency in landscape planning. More specifically, deliverables, process, participation, and general timetables on the AMIA-Project 1 Yolanda Strategic Plan were also formulated.

The members of the AMIA-Project 1 Consortium who participated in the workshop were Mr. Johnson P. Mercader, Team Leader; Dr. Eliseo R. Ponce, Strategic Planning Specialist; Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz, Disaster Assessment Specialist; Dr. Victoria O. Espaldon, Program Development Specialist; and Ms. Arlene B. Inocencio, Monitoring Evaluation Specialist. The Regional Experts were Dr. Antonio P. Abamo, Dr. Buenaventura B. Dergantes, Dr. Fe M. Gabunada, Dr. Pastor P. Garcia, Dr. Paterno I. Rebuelta, and Dr. Efren B. Saz. Ms. Perla G. Baltazar, Technical Staff under the DA Systems-Wide Climate Change Office (SWCCO), was also present.

SEARCA was represented by Ms. Nancy M. Landicho-de Leon, Program Specialist; Ms. Imelda L. Batangantang, Program Associate; Mr. Alvin G. Tallada, Project Coordinator; and Mr. Jerrel Edric B. Mallari, Project Support Staff, all of the Project Development and Technical Services (PDTS). The delegation from UPLBFI included Ms. Dorcas V. Trinidad, Senior Project Coordinator; Ms. Marilou Atanante, Accounting Supervisor; Ms. Josephine Laserna, Account Specialist; and Mr. Ariene P. Gregorio, Research Assistant.
