DA-BAR recognizes SEARCA’s contributions to improving Filipino farmers’ welfare

The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) of the Philippines paid tribute to the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) as an “International R&D Partner” on 8 August 2014 at the opening of the three-day 10th Agriculture and Fisheries Technology Forum and Product Exhibition and 27th BAR Anniversary at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, Philippines.

DA-BAR cited SEARCA’s valuable contributions to efforts that strengthen partnership and establish collaborations to introduce technologies that benefit and improve the lives of the Filipino farmers and fisherfolk.

Dr. Gil C. Saguiguit, Jr., SEARCA Director, accepted the plaque of recognition on the Center’s behalf.

Dr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar, DA-BAR Executive Director, welcomed those who came to the opening ceremonies. The other speakers were Dr. William D. Dar, Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), and Hon. Evelina G. Escudero, Sorsogon Representative to the Congress of the Philippines, who both shared inspirational messages; and Assistant Secretary Romeo S. Recide of the DA Office of Policy, Planning, Research and Regulation, who delivered the keynote address on behalf of Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala.
