DA-BAR and SEARCA attend KM International Conference 2015

KATOWICE, Poland – The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) attended the 3rd Knowledge Management Conference at the University of Economics in Katowice (UEK), Poland on 24-27 June 2015. The conference theme was “Knowledge, Learning, Information Technology.”

The conference tackled various facets of knowledge management (KM) covering social technologies, ICT and mobile applications, e-commerce, e-government, security and privacy, public and private sector participation, organizational and inter-organizational dynamics, gender empowerment, business processes, risk management, evaluation methodologies, and best practices among others.

Santos III, Program Specialist and Officer in Charge of SEARCA’s Project Development and Technical Services (PDTS) constituted the Philippine delegation. The conference was also attended by representatives from various academic and research institutions from Bulgaria, Canada, Georgia, Israel, Poland, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, and USA.

Professor Alojzy Z. Nowak, Vice Rector for Research and Liaison, University of Warsaw, delivered a Keynote Lecture with the topic “Is Eurozone an Arcadia for Europe?”

Other guests during the opening ceremony included the Katowice City Treasurer who represented Dr. Marcin Krupa, Mayor of Katowice; Professor Leszek Żabiński, Rector, Krakow University of Economics (UEK); Professor Ewa Ziemba, KM Conference 2015 Chair, UEK; Professor Andrzej Piosik, Dean of Faculty of Finance and Insurance, UEK; Professor Nitza Geri, KM Conference Program Chair, The Open University of Israel; and Professor Alex Koohang of Middle Georgia State, USA.

Aside from SEARCA, other international organizations represented in the conference were the International Association for Computer Information Systems, International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management, and USAID.

The DA-BAR and SEARCA participation in this conference is a component of a joint project titled “Capacity Building on Knowledge Management - Phase 2.”
