Designed to increase and improve understanding and application of methods and procedures needed to determine vulnerable and risk-prone areas and systems. Participants will also be guided in preparing an action plan for addressing and managing risks due to weather and climate that can be applied in their respective contexts

After completing the training, the participant is expected to:
- Discuss the concepts, methods and procedures of risk analysis;
- Apply risk analysis to determine vulnerable and risk-prone areas and systems and identify risk-efficient alternatives;
- Assess and compare the applicability of various response options to adapt, mitigate, or cope with the different sources of risks; and
- Formulate and develop an action plan for addressing risks due to weather and climate in agricultural production systems, as applicable to their context or sphere of influence.
Those actively involved in sustainable agriculture and rural development, natural resource management, and disaster and risk management (DRM), specifically:
- Government planners and technical staff at the regional, national and local levels;
- Researchers and practitioners from centers of excellence; and
- Representatives and staff of regional or national non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

A. for citizens of SEAMEO member countries only
Interested participants who are nationals of the 11 SEAMEO member countries, namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste, are eligible for the SEARCA fellowship grant. The grant will cover the following: round-trip economy-class plane ticket, full board and lodging, cost of tuition, training materials, field visit and airport transfers. The deadline for the fellowship grant application is 31 August 2009.
B. for Bangkok-based government employees only
An applicant for this grant should possess the following characteristics to qualify: 1) is a national or local government planner/technical staff or is a center of excellence researcher/practitioner involved in sustainable agriculture, rural development and natural resource management; 2) is currently working or is in charge of the disaster and risk management project(s) or related activities of his/her organization; 3) is proficient in the English language and generally has good communication, organizational and analytical skills; 4) is willing to work with his/her agency for at least two more years after the training; and 5) is preferably below 45 years old. Applicants who are chosen to receive this grant will be fully sponsored by SEARCA during the training. The application deadline for this grant is 30 September 2009.
Application for the fellowship grant is competitive. There is no assurance that all applicants will be granted the fellowship. There are six grants slots for citizens of SEAMEO member countries and 4 grant slots for Bangkok-based government employees.
