The Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC) is inviting applications for academic exchange grants. The grants are open to graduate students and faculty members of UC member universities.
The grants are the following UC members: Institut Pertanian Bogor and Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia, Universiti Putra Malaysia in Malaysia, Kasetsart University in Thailand, and University of the Philippines Los Baños in the Philippines, all of which are founding members; and University of Queensland in Australia, University of British Columbia in Canada, Georg-August University of Göttingen in Germany, and Tokyo University of Agriculture in Japan, all of which are associate members.
Student Exchange
The student exchange travel grants are open to graduate students of agriculture and related sciences who are studying in any of the UC member universities.
The exchange student may take up courses or conduct research in the host university where the student’s field of specialization is among the university's strengths. Units earned for courses in the host university will be credited to the student's degree program.
Faculty Exchange
Consortium faculty members on academic exchange may undertake both short- and long-term visits to other universities within the UC.
While on academic exchange, the grantee has the opportunity to gain first-hand experience on the academic and research activities of his/her counterpart professors and discuss possibilities for collaboration. The faculty exchange grantee may teach courses in his/her field of specialization and in accordance with the needs of the host university. Advisers of students on exchange visit can confer with their advisees and interact with the academic staff of the host university while on the program.
Applications for student and faculty exchange travel grants may be submitted to the UC Secretariat c/o Dr. Editha C. Cedicol, Manager, Graduate Scholarship Department, SEARCA, Los Baños 4031, Laguna, Philippines, from September to December 2010. Application forms may be downloaded from the UC website at http://www.uc.searca.org.
Launched in 1989, the UC is a commitment made among leading Southeast Asian higher education institutions to share academic expertise and resources.
The UC is envisioned as a viable approach to pursuing agricultural human resource development in Southeast Asia by linking top agricultural universities in the region to facilitate free exchange of information, facilities, and expertise.
