Dr. Alberto Barrion illustrates the distinctions between various Rice Black Bugs species and its distribution in the Philippines, during his lecture at the Agriculture and Development Seminar Series (ADSS) on 31 August 2010 at SEARCA, in cooperation with the Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society of Agriculture. His presentation highlighted new developments in the management of Rice Black Bugs in the Philippines, and explained the common myths and misconceptions regarding the pest. Dr. Barrion stated that the farmers’ perception of Rice Black Bugs could be very different from what they really are.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Albert T. Barrion is currently a Senior Consultant and Crop Protection Expert in Entomology to the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice). He was also an IRRI-CESD consultant on arthropod biodiversity in Hainan Isaland, China. Dr. Barrion received his BS degree in Agriculture, Major in Entomology; MS degree in Systematic Entomology; and PhD in Spider Ecology at the University of the Philippines Los Banos.
