Twelve scholarships for the FSC Summer School 2010 “Disease-Related Malnutrition” are offered by the Food Security Center (FSC)/German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to graduate students in natural sciences who are nationals of Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and other selected developing countries.
The FSC Summer School 2010 is a collaborative undertaking of the FSC and the Institute for Biological Chemistry and Nutrition, University of Hohenheim (UHOH), Stuttgart, Germany and it will be held from 20 September to 8 October 2010 at UHOH.
The Summer School aims to: 1) impart a basic understanding of the complex interactions between essential nutrients and malnutrition; 2) provide and overview of strategies to prevent and treat disease-related malnutrition; and 3) enable participants to understand the basic functions of micronutrients in humans, the factors affecting their absorption and bioavailability, and their role in the development and prevention of diseases. The course will be taught in English and UHOH students of human nutrition can take the Summer School as an elective module (Wahlmodul).
Target participants of the Summer School are graduate students in nutritional, agricultural, or biological sciences or other natural sciences.
Scholarships for the Summer School will cover the following: 1) cost of economy class roundtrip ticket to Stuttgart and 2) a lump sum of €1,000 to cover all costs related to the stay at UHOH, including health insurance, food, public transportation, and accommodation for the duration of the Summer School. The scholarship requires that the students arrive in Stuttgart no later than 19 September 2010 and not to leave earlier than 8 October 2010.
The attendance of the Summer School is free of charge. Students who do not have scholarship must cover the cost of health insurance, accommodation, and other living expenses.

Successful applicants will be notified no later than 6 August 2010.
