“Pursue scientific and technological projects that would benefit the people.” This is the battle cry of Hon. Mario G. Montejo, new Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) who is a strong believer of the Filipinos’ innovative capability. Secretary Montejo keynoted the R&D Symposium and Awarding Ceremonies of the Los Baños Science Community(LBSC) on 27 July 2010. The event, which was hosted by the Southeast Asia Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) in Los Baños, Laguna, was LBSC’s final activity in celebration of the National Science and Technology Week. The symposium was highlighted by the conferment of the Philippine Agriculture Resources and Research Foundation, Inc. (PARRFI) R&D Award and the Elvira O. Tan Memorial Award for Best Published Papers. The new set of LBSC Foundation, Inc. leaders was likewise inducted into office at the same occasion. LBSCFI, composed of 23 agencies, aims to effectively collaborate and cooperate toward the creation of a model community that addresses the needs of Los Baños and similar environs through creativity and innovation.
