26-March-2009 SEARCA News Release
SEARCA-ISEAS1 recently released a book that highlights policy research gaps that need to be addressed to come up with sustainable fisheries for the poor. Among others, these include constructing a profile of fish producers and consumers in Southeast Asia, analyzing supply and demand for sector planning, and assessing impacts of globalization and trade integration initiatives. The book, Poverty Reduction through Sustainable Fisheries, provides a new perspective for policy makers, researchers, and agricultural and rural development administrators to aid them in decision-making.
Dr. Arnulfo G. Garcia, one of the editors of the book and SEARCA Research and Development Manager, made a ceremonial signing of the book before the participants of the Fisheries and Climate Change Regional Workshop last March 20. Co-edited by Dr. Roehlano M. Briones, the book synthesizes the papers presented during the April 2007 conference on Poverty Reduction through Sustainable Fisheries hosted by SEARCA, WorldFish Center, and the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD).
