Friends, not enemies, psyche and science can team up for greater human progress. This was the gist of the message given by Mr. Nicanor Perlas.1
Quantum mechanics. According to Perlas, quantum mechanics is an example of how advancement in science has evolved. Long before it was recognized as an emerging body of knowledge, people regarded it as taboo – deemed as witchcraft by some of our ancestors. The field deals with the study of sub-atomic particles’ behavior and how this affects a system. The dawn of Internet age and cellular phones paved the way for people to rethink on some basic quantum mechanics principles.
Black hole. Also known as the death of a star, it is another example of how knowledge has shifted paradigms. Through the Hubble space telescope, scientists were able to take actual photos from space and explain more thoroughly the black hole philosophy. Through this instrument, scientists were able to empirically verify how the process occurs; thus validating the mathematical constructs proposed before.
Zero-point energy. This, says Perlas, is the energy associated with an empty space or vacuum; and is said to be powerful enough to power the entire world. It was Albert Einstein and Otto Stern who proposed the concept in 1913, but until now, scientists are still debating with regard to its existence.
Who knows if this can really be the power of the future; and cars and houses can use this zero-point energy which might be the solution to abate impacts on climate change?
Perhaps, the road towards understanding better the world we live in could be traversed with psyche partnering with science. They could be inseparable partners for progress; friends, indeed, not enemies.
