SEARCA Director Arsenio M. Balisacan will be conferred with the title Academician by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Philippines. Conferment will be on July 10, 2008 at the Manila Hotel.

He will be joining the ranks of Dioscoro L. Umali, Emil Q. Javier, William G. Padolina, and Gelia T. Castillo who were also NAST academicians.
NAST is the government’s highest recognition body on science and technology. Its primary mandate is to give awards to Filipino scientists and scientific and technological endeavors aimed at advancing the state of Philippine science and technology.
The election of an academician is mainly through peer recognition.
