Local economy’s total output decreased by 0.016 % or by about PhP 2.23 million (equivalent to USD 55,180 at current exchange rate), when environmental variables were included. This was the result of the study of Mr. Agham Cuevas of the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

The above amount reflects the value of environment damage that all local production processes cause through water and air pollution. The manufacturing sector accounts for the largest share of environmental damage at 40%, followed by households (36%) and private services (13%).More specifically, most of the stress on the use of water resources comes from households (37%), private services (28%) and agriculture (26%); that of air resources comes from the manufacturing sector (85%). The study confirmed that the value of environmental damages for air and water increases as a result of more intense pressure by increased production and consumption. The study was funded through the SEARCA Seed Fund for Research and Training in 2005-06.
Local government can use the results of the study as reference when planning and basis when crafting policies that harmonize economic and environmental agenda.
