Knowledge is SEARCA's primary resource and commodity. It is information that is relevant, actionable, based on experience, and is put to work applied, which eventually makes a difference.
Thus, SEARCA makes knowledge and information readily available and accessible to advance agriculture and rural development in the region. Towards this end, SEARCA produces and distributes publications such as monographs, occasional papers, journal articles, training manuals and reference materials and publishes the results of scientific workshops and conferences and research findings in newspapers and magazines to reach a wider audience. SEARCA also establishes information networks, develops and disseminates databases, conducts relevant training courses, seminars, and conferences, and maintains SEARCA's strong Internet presence.
The challenge to the Center now is to pioneer in two areas: (a) explore the applications of information and communication technology (ICT) on natural resource management and rural growth promotion; and (b) explore the regional R&D applications of ICT. Hence, the Center can break new ground in terms of content and coverage, as well as the nuances in mechanics attendant to the above sectors. This is the mission of the knowledge Management Unit.
