The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST, Philippines), and the Dioscoro L. Umali Foundation (DLUF) seek your nomination of a deserving Southeast Asian for the Dioscoro L. Umali Achievement Award for Agricultural Development. Only candidates recommended in writing by qualified nominators, accompanied by supporting documentation, shall be considered in the review/selection process.
Launched in November 2007, the Umali Achievement Award for Agricultural Development intends to honor exemplary Southeast Asia (SEA) nationals whose work in the region has provided exceptionally significant positive impact on the development of agriculture and the improvement of the quality of life in rural communities in the region. The award is for achievement along the full range of fields in agricultural development including, but not limited to, plant and animal sciences, land and water management, environment and natural resource management, technology development, knowledge management, social organization, food security, poverty reduction, economics and business, and policy and governance.
It is expected to be given annually and comes with a cash prize of US$10, 000 and a plaque. The first Umali Achievement Awardee is Dr. Vo Tong Xuan of Vietnam. The award was conferred on him on 27 November 2008; on the occasion of SEARCA’s 42nd Anniversary.
