The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) hosted a field visit under one-week course on ASEAN Integration participated by 17 graduate students from the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) Schools on 14 June 2017.
In pursuit of developing future leaders of Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development (ISARD) in Southeast Asia, SEARCA continues to support graduate students and their academic milestones. The Special Graduate Seminar Series aims to showcase outstanding researches conducted by SEARCA scholars.
CHIANG MAI, Thailand – An official from Myanmar underscored the potential of social forestry (SF) in the development of small and medium scale enterprises in ASEAN. Dr. Phyu Phyu Win, Assistant Director of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Policy and International Affairs of Myanmar's Ministry of Industry, shared her country's experiences and insights at the recently concluded 7th ASEAN Working Group on Social Forestry (AWG-SF) Conference held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 12-14 June 2017. Here, she served as moderator and paper presenter through a travel grant awarded by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
SEARCA honors its graduating scholars at the Testimonial Program held on 22 June 2017. On its 50th year anniversary, 50 scholars earned their MS and PhD degrees, 23 of whom obtained their degrees in SEARCA's overseas study posts. Out of the 35 MS and 15 PhD graduates, 25 were supported by the joint collaboration with the International Development Centre (IDRC) of Canada, while six were supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and one by the UC-Tokyo NODAI joint scholarship.

Habito as the new Editor of the Asian Journal of Agriculture and Development (AJAD), an international refereed journal dedicated to the publication of information and analysis on topics within the broad scope of agriculture and development.

SEARCA, as one of the implementing partners of the ASEAN Working Group on Social Forestry (AWG-SF) and the ASEAN-Swiss Partnership on Social Forestry and Climate Change (ASFCC), supported and participated in the recently concluded 7th AWG-SF Conference held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 12-14 June 2017. The conference highlights the theme "Social Forestry in Forest Landscape Restoration: Enabling Partnership and Investments for Sustainable Development Goals." More than 200 participants from government, civil society organizations (CSOs), development partners, private sector, and academic institutions in the ASEAN Member States (AMS) took part in the conference.
LOS BAÑOS, Philippines - The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), conducted the training course on Financial Viability and Profitability Analysis of New Technologies and Enterprises under the High Value Crops Development Program held on 5-9 June 2017 at the SEARCA headquarters. This activity is the first in a series of training courses under the DA-BAR-funded project "Financial Viability and Profitability Analysis of New Technologies and Enterprises under the High Value Crops Development Program."
