Hinged on the wisdom that graduate education alone would not suffice to enable SEARCA to make a significant dent to the development of the region, the Center expanded its programs, thus, the introduction of other well-meaning programs in the Center.

In addition to the graduate education program and the short-training courses, SEARCA trail blazed in research and development. In its first decade, most of the projects were aimed at increasing farm productivity in the countryside, through generation of modern technology and production of competent technical manpower. Over the years, the R&D thrust of the Center evolved to keep abreast with the needs of the time.
